Painting solo exhibition by Sondra Segala at Serragiumenta Castle

Sayato presents, as part of the project “Altrove – Galleria diffusa ed itinerante,” the exhibition“Pure Passion,” a solo show by Sondra Segala at the Castle of Serragiumenta, a historic Calabrian mansion from the 1600s.
Sondra Segala’s exhibition represents Serragiumenta’s second summer event, following Roberta Guarinoni’s solo show, and will be on view free of charge until the end of August.

The seventeenth-century rooms of the castle display 13 works by the Marche artist, which can be seen in the main hall, the breakfast room and other rooms, in a happy marriage of contemporary art and period context.
Sondra’s works are made using salvaged wood-based materials-chips and wood scraps-exposed on jute canvases.
The mixed technique involves the use of glazes and pure color pigments to enhance the colors of the works.

“Pure Passion” confirms Serragiumenta Castle’s intention to increasingly become an exhibition reality of contemporary art in the province of Cosenza.

Located in Altomonte (CS) Serragiumenta represents a unicum capable of declining many different aspects of Calabria. The heart of the system is the castle built in the 16th century by the 10th Count of Altomonte, Pietro Antonio Sanseverino, which peeps out on a rise in the Calabrian countryside, between the Ionian and Tyrrhenian seas, nestled in hills clothed in vineyards and olive groves. In 1947 it was purchased, along with the surrounding farmland, by Federico Bilotti, who was responsible for an initial restoration of the structure, used as the family home, and the revitalization of agricultural production on the surrounding land.
After a further generational transition, today the entire complex is in the hands of granddaughter Rita Bilotti, an agricultural landscape architect.
She is responsible for the diversification of farm activities, aimed at making Serragiumenta an important reference point for a new experiential tourism and sustainable agricultural practices.
Rita has a sensitivity toward contemporary art that was also born thanks to her uncle, the Carlo Bilotti who was the owner of one of the most important collections in the world and to whom the museum of the same name, inside the Orangery of Villa Borghese, is dedicated.
