Biography
Biography

Francesco Diotallevi (January 8, 1971 – Senigallia) pop artist, contemporary painter.
He lives and works in Italy, in the province of Pesaro Urbino.

Francesco showed a keen interest in drawing from a very young age, falling in love with the characters created by cartoonists Bonvi (Bonvicini) and Jacovitti.
Drawing is an activity for him through which to escape and develop stories.

He attends the Urbino School of the Book sect. Animated Drawing, where he deepened the technique of graphic design and animation, the defining elements of his creative research in the years to come. In 1995 he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna; during this period of study he began to stylistically combine the knowledge gained in Urbino with Emilian painting and culture.

Since 2000, he finally abandoned the informal style and began to tell stories on canvas charged with irony sometimes irreverent inspired by childhood fairy tales, literature or simply everyday life.
Uses simple language for quick and immediate reading.
Characters are treated with the straightforwardness of a logo, the simplicity of an “emoji,” and colors almost always devoid of hues.
Ironic and desecrating, the corrosive declinations of the smile find a narrative dimension in Diotallevi’s painting.

The critique
The critique

“Canvases become single shots, the one frame of a film or the torn page of an entire book, representing only a part of the story to leave the viewer with the thankless task of imagining a beginning and an end.”
